For better or for worse, that’s what I call it now, ‘Quran verse expander’. I’m definitely open to suggestion for a better name. Before we begin, decide on which utility you are going to use. As of 01.20.2010 I have bunders/plugins for Typinator and Textexpander.Frankly these are the only two I know of for OS X. I’m not going to recommend one over the other objectively. I received a free license for Typinator via http://www.macheist.com/ and love it. While creating the plugin I did use Textexpander, but not very extensively. Both have trial versions so pick one or both and give them a try. From here lets go step by step:

1. Download one of the apps from above.
2. Download the corresponding bundle
   • Typinator bundle – QuranVerses.tyset
   • Textexpander plugin – QuranVerses.textexpander
3. Unzip the bundle and just double click. It will auto load into your application of choice.

How to use it?

Typing a sequence of number with ‘:’ will cause the verses to be auto expanded. Because we also type in time as in like 1:30, I have the abbreviations setup to be prefixed with ‘q’. So if you wanted to insert the verse 83 of the second surah then just type in q2:83 and voila. One caveat, this will happen where ever text can be input.
